MOS CRACIUN

Mos Craciun cu plete dalbe
A sosit de prin nameti
Si aduce daruri multe
La fetite si baieti
Mos Craciun! Mos Craciun!

Din batrani se povesteste
Ca-n toti anii negresit
Mos Craciun pribeag soseste
Niciodata n-a lipsit
Mos Craciun! Mos Craciun!

FATHER CHRISTMAS

Father Christmas, his white locks glistening,
Has come through the snowdrifts
And brings many gifts to
Little girls and boys.
Father Christmas! Father Christmas!

It was said in olden times
That every year without fail
Father Christmas comes wandering.
He has never failed to come,
Father Christmas! Father Christmas!

SALTATI CAMPURI SI LIVEZI

Saltati campuri si livezi
Hristos s-a nascut
Bucurie ne-ncetata
Noua ne-a adus
Domnul Hristoss-a nascut,
Om pentru noi s-a facut;
Bucurie ne-ncetata
Noua ne-a adus

Pastorii cu fluierile,
Pre El il maresc,
Si, ca la nou imparat,
Daruri il cinstesc;
Aur smirna si tamaie,
Mila Domnului sa fie;
Mila Lui cu lumea toata
Si pana-n vecie.

ARISE FIELDS AND MEADOWS

Arise fields and meadows
Christ is born.
He has brought us
Joy eternal.
Christ our Lord is born,
He is made man for us
He has brought to us
Joy eternal.

The shepherds with their pipes
They praise Him
And as a new King
Honour Him with gifts
Gold, myrrh and frankincense
The Lord's mercy be upon us
His mercy for the whole world
And until the end of time.

AZI CU TOTI SA PRAZNIUM

Azi cu toti sa praznium,
Pre Iisus sa-l prea marim.
Hristos vine-ncetinel,
Spre patima ca un miel;
O, minune! O, minune!

Azi intra-n Ierusalim,
Calare pe manz, asin.
De popor a asteptat,
Can un mare imparat,
O, minune! O, minune!

La poarta e-ntampinat,
Toti "osana!" i-au cantat.
Osana dintru-naltime,
Ca Hristos, imparat vine
O, minune! O, minune!

Pruncii cu stalpari in mana
Canta cu toti impreuna.
Osana dintru-naltime,
Ca Hristos, imparat vine,
O, minune! O, minune!

TODAY WE ALL CELEBRATE

Today we all celebrate
Let us praise Jesus.
Christ is coming gently
To his passion as a lamb.
Oh, wonder! Oh, wonder!

Today he enters Jerusalem
Riding on a donkey.
The people are awaiting Him
As a great King,
Oh, wonder! Oh, wonder!

He is welcomed at the gate
All sang ‘Hosanna!
Hosanna in the highest!
Christ the King is coming,
Oh, wonder! Oh, wonder!’

Infants bearing palms
Sing all together:
‘Hosanna in the highest!
Christ the King is coming.
Oh, wonder! Oh, wonder!’

COBARAT-A COBORATU

Cobarat-a coboratu
Iai Domnului Doamne
De mai sus de rasaritu
Dumnezeu din cer pe scari
Iai Domnului Doamne
Pe miruri, pe luminari.

C'o turma de oi domnesti
Iai Domnului Doamne
Pe fanete Omenesti
Si le paste din seninu
Iai Domnului Doamne
Si le-adapa din nor plinu

Oameni rai la El venira
Iai Domnului Doamne
Si pe cruce-L rastignira

HE DESCENDED THE STAIRS FROM HEAVEN

He descended the stairs from Heaven.
Come, Lord God from above,
From the sunrise.
Lord, on the stairway from Heaven,
Come, Lord God,
On the myrrh, on the candles.

With a flock of heavenly sheep
Come, Lord God,
To our earthly fields
And let them peacefully graze.
Come, Lord God,
And let them drink from the brimming clouds.

Bad men came to Him,
Lord God,
And crucified Him on the cross

IAN' TE SCOALA GAZDA

Ian' te scoala gazda buna,
De vezi bine cine-ti vin'
Ca-ti vin juni colindatori,
Noaptea pe la cantatori.
Si-ti aduc un cantec lin,
Sa le dai un cap de vin.

ARISE GOOD HOST

Arise good host and
See who’s coming.
Young carol singers are coming
All through the night, until sunrise.
They bring a gentle song
And you’ll give them a capful of wine.

LA VITLEEM COLO-N JOS

La Vitleem colo-n jos
Cerul arde luminos,
Preacurata Naste astazi pe Hristos.

Naste-n ieslea boilor
Pe-mparatul tuturor,
Preacurata Sta si plange-ncetisor.

N'are scutec de-nfasat,
Nici hainute de-mbracat,
Preacurata Pentru pruncul de-mparat.

Nu mai plange maica mea,
Nu mai plange maica mea,

Nu mai plange maica mea
Scutecele noi ti-om da,
Preacurata, Pruncul Sfant de-i infasa!

DOWN THERE IN BETHLEHEM

Down there in Bethlehem
The sky burns bright,
The Virgin gives birth to Christ today.

She gives birth in the cow's manger
To the king of all mankind,
Weeping softly.

The Virgin has no swaddling to wrap
around
The infant king nor clothes to dress him.
.
Weep no more, my mother,
Weep no more.

Weep no more, my mother
We will give you the swaddling clothes
To wrap around the holy infant.

AM PLECAT SA COLINDAM

Domn, Domn, sa-naltam,

Am plecat sa colindam,
Domn, Domn, sa-naltam,
Cand boierii nu-s acasa,
Domn, Domn sa-naltam.

Au plecat la vanatoare
Domn, Domn, sa-naltam
Sa vaneze caprioare,
Domn, Domn, sa-naltam.

Caprioare n-au vanat
Domn, Domn, sa-naltam,
Si-au vanat un iepuras,
Domn, Domn, sa-naltam.

Sa faca din pielea lui,
Domn, Domn, sa-naltam
Vesmant frumos Domnului
Domn, Domn, sa-naltam.

WE ARE GOING A-CAROLLING

Praise the Lord!

We are going a-carolling
Praise the Lord!
When the masters are not at home.
Praise the Lord!

They have gone a-hunting
Praise the Lord!
To hunt deer
Praise the Lord!

They did not catch the deer,
Praise the Lord!
They caught a rabbit instead.
Praise the Lord!

To make from his pelt
Praise the Lord!
A beautiful cloak for the Lord
Praise the Lord!

CANTEC DE CRACIUN

Din an in an sosesc mereu la geam
cu Mos Ajun,
E ger cumplit, e drumul greu, Da-i obicei strabun
Azi cu stramosii cant in cor colindul sfant
si bun
Tot mos era si-n vremea lor batranul Mos Craciun.

E sarbatoare si e joc in casa ta acum
Dar sunt bordeie fara foc si maine-i
Mos Ajun
Si-acum te las, fii sanatos si vesel de
Craciun,
Dar nu uita cand esti voios, Romane, sa fii bun.

CHRISTMAS SONG

Year by year, they come to the window
with Father Christmas,
All is frosty, the path is difficult. It is an ancient custom.
Today, with our forefathers, we sing in unison the good and holy carol,
Old Father Christmas was an old man even in their time.

There is feasting and dancing in your house now,
But there are hovels without fires and tomorrow is Christmas Eve.
And now I will leave you, be healthy and happy this Christmas
But don't forget when you are cheerful, to remain generous.

CINTECUL CUCULUI

Cucule, pasare grasa, cuc,
Ce tot cinti la noi pe leasa,
Cuculeana, lugojeana, cuc!

Ori ti-e foame, ori ti-e sete, cuc,
Ori ti-e dor de codru verde,
Cuculeana, lugojeana, cuc!

Nici mi-e foame, nici mi-e sete, cuc,
Ci mi-e dor de codru verde,
Cuculeana, lugojeana, cuc!

SONG OF THE CUCKOO

Cuckoo, you plump bird, cuckoo,
You keep singing on our hedge,
Little cuckoo from Lugoj, cuckoo!

You are either hungry or thirsty, cuckoo,
Or you miss the green forest
Little cuckoo from Lugoj, cuckoo!

I am neither hungry nor thirsty, cuckoo,
But I miss the green forest,
Little cuckoo from Lugoj, cuckoo!

PLUGUSORUL

Hai! Hai! Hai! Hai!
Maine anul se-nnoieste,
Plugusorul se porneste,
Plugusor cu sase boi,
Boisori manati de noi.

Boisorii dinainte
Cu cornite poleite;
Boisorii din mijloc
Cu cornitele de foc.

Boisorii de la roata
Cu cornitele de piatra.
Urati, flacai, manati, mai!

Cati carbuni sunt in cuptor,
Atatea vite-n obor!
Cate frunze in frunzar,
Atati bani in buzunar!

Cei din casa sa traisca
Afara sa izvorasca
Urati, flacai, manati, mai

THE PLOUGH

Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey!
Tomorrow, the year is renewed
The plough is starting
The plough with six bulls
Little bulls, driven by us.

The little bulls at the front
With little gilded horns;
The little bulls in the middle
With fiery little horns.

The little bulls at the wheel
With little horns of stone.
Cheers, lads, drive on!

As many coals as are in the fire
May you have the same number of cattle in the byre!
As many leaves as are in the arbour
May you have as much money in your pocket!

May those at home live long
And everything outside flourish!
Cheers, lads, drive on!
