Adventure
– the first London festival of
Romanian composers.

Anda Anastasescu’s performances across the world have been consistently praised for their commitment, passion and imagination. As artistic director of A Romanian Musical Adventure – the first festival of Romanian composers in the UK – she is presenting for comparison miraculous works by four remarkable young men – with Beethoven at 32 their eldest.

Beethoven, Silvestri and Chopin charge their works with fire and poetical ideas, creating  dramatic dialogues where anxiety alternates with contemplation. Silvestri uses the colouristic potential of the piano to produce hypnotic effects and surprises by ending his Sonata with a surreal waltz reminiscent of Ravel.

The 22-year-old Enescu, a larger-than-life figure with an exceptional understanding and knowledge of piano writing, reaches for the sublime, his long, erotic melodic lines soaring to heights of nobility. His love for Wagner is evident, as is his love for Romania. The subtle  references to his country’s traditional music are extraordinarily atmospheric and ecstatic. Enescu will surely prove to be an even greater composer than the one so many people already admire.

A Romanian Musical Adventure is supported by the London Schubert Players Trust, Romanian Ministry for Foreign Affairs/DRRP, Romanian Embassy and Romanian Cultural Centre in London. Project Director Ionela Flood.
